Visiting Artists Program
Amandine Drouet
This fall in the school Gallery, Fine Arts will feature
Atlanta Artist Amandine Drouet's Upcycled Art
from September 8 to October 30. The show will include examples of her work along with an installation of 2nd and 5th grade upcycled art. We are excited that Drouet and her team from Embodied Energy Studio, Dena Light and Make Wsol, will conduct workshops during our regularly scheduled art classes. The children will make art as they learn more about the effects of littering. Specific dates for the workshops will be announced when we know our class schedules.
Amandine Drouet received the 2013-14 Emerging Artist Award from Forward Arts Foundation. That award included a one person show at Swan Coach House Gallery last spring. While many artists use trash to make art, Drouet is known for her delicate forms, color, and for totally transforming her materials. Drouet is involved with Embodied Energy Studio to raise awareness about the effects of litter particularly in our waterways. Their collaborative monumental sculpture, Current Collections/The Sea Unseen, is touring the US and was recently installed at Centennial Olympic Park. They enjoy working with communities and schools as part of their environmental mission.
You can also see more about Drouet's art at amandinedrouet.com and Embodied Energy Studio at www.seatheunseen.com.

Tate Museum Project: Third Year
Honors French and Art Collaboration and the TATE MUSEUM OF LONDON: 3rd Year
10 Mots En Folie, a project initiated by the French Department of Cultural Affairs and the French Department of Education, explores relationships between Art and Language. The project was led in partnership with BP Art Exchange, a "global platform for teachers, artists, and cultural organizations to exchange ideas and art" and is tied to Tate Gallery in London. Through the initiative, students learned about semantics, history, geography, and current events in the French-speaking world through specific activities. They then turned what they had learned into an original work of art – their own interpretation of "folie".
Agnes Browning was able to guide the students for a third year with very little help of the art department. A goal met of this program, to enable teachers with visual arts skills in order to do projects on their own.

Heroes and Leaders Puppet Project
In first grade social studies, we are studying American heroes and leaders of the past and present. The children will each focus in on a leader and learn all about that person. They will understand their personality, their impact on our country, and their leadership qualities. Then they will create a puppet show to teach others about their leader. Learning How To Observe As A Scientist
Nolan Moris and Amy Story teamed up to help Biology students take a closer look at their cat tissue samples. Using Photoshop, the close up textures and unique qualities were enhanced, grid, then transferred into a black and white drawing. This forced the students to look closer and document their observations, just like a real scientist would do. Teacher: Nolan Morris Artist: Amy Lee Story |
